Digging Into Garden Science: Our August Series Begins

Our August Garden Science Series is officially in full swing, and our young gardeners are having a blast getting their hands in the soil!

This month, we're growing zinnias and sunflowers from seed while discovering what happens beneath the soil long before we ever see a flower. We started by preparing our soil, filling seed trays, planting and labeling our seeds, and placing them under grow lights. Within just 48 hours, some of our first seeds had already germinated!

Over our four weeks together, the kids will care for their seedlings while observing, measuring, sketching, and recording what they discover in their Garden Science journals. Along the way, we're exploring plant life cycles, germination, roots, sunlight, soil, pollinators, beneficial insects, composting, and what plants need to thrive.

But perhaps the best part is simply being outside together — digging in the soil, spotting butterflies and garden creatures, asking questions, and experiencing science as it happens all around us.

Each child is also growing plants of their own, giving them the opportunity to continue caring for and observing their garden long after our series ends.

We're just getting started, and we can't wait to see how much our gardens — and our little gardeners — grow!
