The Garden Science Series

At Casa Feliz Schoolhouse, children learn science through hands-on exploration in the garden. In this 4-week nature-based series, students become young scientists as they plant seeds, observe growth, record data, and care for living plants. Each plant study focuses on one featured plant while integrating Florida science standards in life science, observation, measurement, and scientific inquiry.

Students participate in weekly garden lessons where they:

  • Plant seeds and create soil blocks

  • Observe germination and plant growth

  • Record observations in their Garden Science Journal

  • Measure plant growth and identify plant parts

  • Learn about pollinators, life cycles, and ecosystems

  • Practice scientific thinking through prediction and data collection

  • Care for their plant under grow lights before taking it home
