A Living STEAM Laboratory
Our hydroponic garden becomes a living STEAM laboratory. Children can observe plants change from week to week while exploring questions such as:
Can plants really grow without soil?
What happens beneath the plant where we can't normally see?
Why do some plants grow faster than others?
How do light, water, and nutrients affect growth?
How much food can we actually grow?
How does the cost of growing our food compare with buying it at the grocery store?
As our garden grows, so do the questions we can investigate.
One Garden. Different Levels of Discovery.
Hydroponics provides a unique opportunity for children of different ages to investigate the same living system at their own developmental level.
Younger children may draw their observations, count leaves, identify plant parts, and measure growth.
Older children can take those observations further by developing hypotheses, designing experiments, recording data, comparing results, and drawing scientific conclusions.
Everyone participates in the same growing experience while being challenged at an age-appropriate level.

About the Curriculum
Our Hydroponics Science & STEAM program incorporates Gardyn's K–5 STEAM curriculum, designed specifically for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
The curriculum includes 9 lessons delivered over approximately 9 weeks and incorporates student worksheets, plant journals, guided videos, hands-on investigations, and extension activities.
Activities are differentiated so younger children can focus on observation and recording while older children explore experimental design and data analysis.
From Seed to Harvest
One of the most exciting parts of Hydroponics Science is watching a living experiment unfold over time.
Children will follow plants through different stages of growth, document what they discover, care for the garden, and participate in harvesting when plants are ready.
Along the way, we'll connect what happens inside our Gardyn to bigger questions about science, technology, sustainability, agriculture, nutrition, and where our food comes from.
