Have You Ever Seen a Dragonfly Up Close?

Each day, I open and close the crop cages that protect our garden from one of South Florida's most destructive garden pests... iguanas!

While doing so, I often find myself helping pollinators escape. They tend to fly upward instead of searching for the openings along the sides of the cage, so every now and then I gently guide them back out into the garden.

This week, one of those visitors was a dragonfly.

I've always admired how beautiful they are, but I had no idea what incredible hunters they were until I came across one enjoying a meal…a moth. After taking the video below, I became even more fascinated.

Just look at its mouth! It's amazing to see how perfectly designed dragonflies are for catching and eating their prey. They're not only beautiful to watch, but they're also one of the garden's best natural pest controllers, helping keep populations of mosquitoes, flies, moths, and other insects in check.

Nature never ceases to surprise me. Every day in the garden offers another opportunity to slow down, observe, and discover something new.

Take a close look at the video below you might be just as amazed as I was!
